La Fondation Maeght was the first private art institution to be opened in France -modelled on American institutions such as the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation- and since its inauguration by legendary Culture Minister André Malraux it has become one of the world’s leading cultural institutions.
Established in 1964 by Aimé and Marguerite Maeght, a visionary couple of gallerists that represented some of the most important artists (Braque, Calder, Giacometti or Miró among others) La Fondation Maeght recreates a space where art, nature and architecture blend together in harmony.
It’s not a museum. It’s home to one of the largest collections of modern art in Europe, a dream place to enjoy modern and contemporary art in all its forms.
It’s a sculpture garden with a rotating selection of artworks by Calder, Miró or Jean Arp; it’s a Courtyard by Giacometti, it’s a pool designed by Braque.
It’s a cultural centre hosting exhibitions and concerts and a library with a rich collection of more than 35,000 books, journals and research papers to delight art historians and curators.
