WIZARD Gallery is pleased to announce ‘Welcome to the Jumble’ the new exhibition of Carlos Álvarez Las Heras.
30 Gloucester Road. Kensington. London SW7 4RB
These series of seven paintings is a sequence of events that collect the rich, the rare, the curious and the vulgar. The playful sets reflect a psychological landscape where narcissism flirts with tragicomedy. Each painting seems to be on the border of a climax and the characters, sure of themselves, do not bother to hide feelings of apathy or indifference. On the contrary, many of them are proudly bored of being there. Attraction and repulsion coexist to remind us that being in society could be annoying but being out of it is a tragedy. Each work becomes a social mirror, a dialog without words which appeals to the selfie era where realities are blend between real and digital personas.
“The emotions of the characters in my paintings, no matter their nature, are never hidden. The beauty, the sensuality and the nonchalance coexist with melancholy and alienation. Every emotion emerge with a strong presence blending in with the playful environments in which the characters recreate their unique psychological nature. I depict fragments of recurrent situations that try to elevate the ordinary and universal to the category of Art.”
