LERICI - The Municipality of Lerici is pleased to present the solo exhibition of renowned Cuban conceptual artist Diango Hernández. Titled "Floating: Diango Hernández New Paintings and Drawings. Olaismo," the exhibition will be held at Castello di Lerici from July 5 to August 25, in collaboration with WIZARD GALLERY.
The exhibited works translate the light of the Mediterranean into "Olaismo," where human figures float in an abstract space filled with intense blue tones. "Olaismo" refers to the artist's invented language, which has allowed the artist to establish his artistic identity on the international stage. The series features paintings with a semi-transparent element interposed between the artist and the observed reality, resulting in blurred, irregular images that are extraordinarily rich in visual texture. Complementing the paintings are a series of sculptures created in previous years.
"More than once, I've thought that the Havana sea and its winter splashes resembled wavy glass—a semi-transparent and opaque object through which I can see almost everything: the city, its people, and even the sea's horizon, which is nothing more than a portal to another world, a world so desired by many Cubans," explains the artist, whose work has been showcased in numerous solo exhibitions worldwide and in private collections.
"We are proud to host an international artist in our area, one who has always had a multicultural vision that transcends the boundaries of our small community," said Lerici's Mayor, Leonardo Paoletti. He added, "I would like to thank Sanlorenzo, represented by Sergio Buttiglieri, its Style Director, who, in agreement with Cavaliere del Lavoro Massimo Perotti, CEO of Sanlorenzo, made this exhibition possible, bringing prestige to our territory and visibility to an overseas artist who shares our connection to the sea, coastal landscape, and the freedom they evoke."
The exhibition is organized by the Municipality of Lerici in collaboration with Sanlorenzo Yachts and WIZARD GALLERY. During the summer, the castle will be open Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM and from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM. On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, it will be open from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM and from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. "The new summer schedule, planned with Stl who manages the castle, allows guests to enjoy the views from the manor until evening. For the first time, we have decided to also take advantage of the evening ambiance, offering tourists and locals another perspective," concludes Paoletti.
